Email Design Library Overview
The email design library introduces several enhancements designed to improve usability, flexibility, and consistency for all levels of Marketing Cloud users.
Email Design Library Folder Structure
![]() | The new library of assets is available inside a shared Email Design Library folder. These assets are shared across all Business Units in Marketing Cloud so that all university email sends will have a consistent look and feel. You can access these folders by clicking on the Shared tab in Content Builder.
The four base templates are contained in the Templates folder. There are IU-branded and neutral templates for both Commercial and Transactional sends. The Commercial template includes a link to unsubscribe; the Transactional template does not. Choose the template type that matches the CAN-SPAM classification of your send. All templates are pre-populated with fully customizable headers and footers that you control.
The Email Layouts folder contains pre-built email configurations for invitations, letters, newsletters, and announcements. While the templates give you the ability to design from the ground up, the Email Layouts give you a way to jumpstart various types of emails with content blocks already in place, all while retaining the same flexibility of the templates.
The Content Blocks folder contains the assets that you will use to design the content of your emails. Alert bars, Buttons, Callouts and more are ready to drag and drop into your email content areas. |
Customizable Header & Footer
![]() | When you create an email with one of the four provided templates, you will be able to customize the header of your emails to best represent your unit. Once you're in the content editor, you can simply click on the header to start making changes. This allows you to quickly change your branding if needed. To learn more about customizing the header, click here.
The footer of the email that contains your social media links is also customizable. By clicking on it, you will be able to add and remove social media links as needed. Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat, and Pinterest are all included. To learn more about the social media content block, click here. |
User-Created Send Classifications
![]() | Use Send Classifications to define your unit's send identities. Sender Profiles can be created for each combination of the From Name, From Email, Reply Name, and Reply Email you want to use. Standard Send Classifications offer more direct control of your brand, transparency during the send process, and accurate after-action reporting. Real-time Previews
![]() | The new templates are designed so that content blocks render in real-time, removing the need for users to switch to 'Preview and Test' during content creation. Additionally, Content Approvers will now see a fully-rendered preview of the email in their approvals section. |
Simplified roles and permissions |
|
Standard roles now offer additional permissions to empower user management of sends and subscribers. Advanced roles are available for special use cases. To learn more about Marketing Cloud Roles, click here.
