Access Roles in Salesforce Marketing Cloud
The Enterprise CRM Marketing Cloud instance provides several user roles with varying levels of access and permissions. Each role is designed to support specific tasks within Marketing Cloud, such as creating emails, managing data, or overseeing workflows.
IUMC Create (formerly Level 1)
This role is for users who focus on creating and testing content. If you create emails, upload images, and perform test sends, but aren't responsible for sending communications, this role is for you.
Training Requirement: No training required
Permissions:
- Create emails
- Perform test sends
- Upload images
- Create Intelligence reports
- View emails, templates, data extensions, and data filters
- View email tracking
- Create Sender and Delivery Profiles
- Create Send Classifications
- Create, view, update, and delete publication lists
- Delete, manage, and clear data in data extensions
- Export data from a data extension
- View and search for a subscriber in the All-Subscribers list
IUMC Standard (formerly Level 2)
This role is for users who create and send emails on a regular basis. You can do everything that the IUMC Create role can do, plus send emails.
Training Requirement: Live training required
Permissions:
- Perform all tasks in the IUMC Create role.
- Complete A/B testing
- Send email
IUMC Content Approval Manager
This role is for team members who oversee content approval workflows. You can create approval teams, assign users, give feedback on content, and approve items for sending.
Training Requirement: No training required; Documentation materials provided
Permissions:
- Access Workflow Teams
- Create, edit, delete, add or remove users, and view Workflow Teams
- View, comment on, edit, and delete any user’s comments
- Delete comment threads
- Create, edit, delete, and view Approval Items
- Create, edit, view, and delete Workflow Definitions
- View, create, and delete Workflow role instances
Note: Approval from departmental leadership is required for this role.
IUMC Content Approver
This role is for reviewing email content before it is sent. You can view, comment on, and approve content for sending.
Training Requirement: No training required; Documentation materials provided
Permissions:
- View, comment on, edit, and delete other users’ comments
- Delete comment threads
- View, create, edit, and delete Approval Items
Note: Approval from departmental leadership is required for this role.
Additional Roles and Requirements
Based on a user’s business case, they may also be eligible for the additional roles below. The availability for these additional roles may be determined by enterprise CRM leadership, departmental leadership, or other requirement as detailed below.
IUMC Advanced
This role is for advanced users that automate their communications. It gives access to Journey Builder, Automation Studio, and Contact Builder.
Training Requirement: Live training required
Permissions:
- Create, view, edit, pause, stop, and activate journeys in Journey Builder
- Create, edit, and execute automations in Automation Studio
- Access activities in Automation Studio
- Access the query activity in Automation Studio
- View All Contacts in Contact Builder
- Administer the contact data model in Contact Builder
IUMC MobileConnect
This role is for SMS messaging. It’s for users who create and send text messages to subscribers, manage keywords, and do SMS message reporting.
Training Requirement: Canvas course required
Permissions:
- Access MobileConnect and administer SMS
- Create, edit, delete, schedule, and send messages
- Create keywords from message templates
- Access MobileConnect reporting
IUMC CloudPages
This role is for users who build and maintain CloudPages.
Training Requirement: Canvas course required
Permissions:
- Access, create, edit, view, and delete CloudPages
- Publish and unpublish CloudPages
- Access CloudPages reporting
IUMC Data Import Only
This role is for advanced users with a use case that necessitates direct uploads to Salesforce Marketing Cloud. You can import and update subscriber lists, publication lists, and data extensions.
Training Requirement: Canvas course required
Permissions:
- View, create, update, and import Publication List subscribers
- Import data into a data extension
- View and import into the All-Subscribers table
